Our Story – Rukako

Rukako is a family-owned company with roots going back to 1992. The company was founded by Juha’s mother, starting as a small-scale operation in the heart of Ruka’s tourism area. Over the years, both Rukako and Ruka have grown and evolved side by side — but the values of family entrepreneurship, genuine passion for our work, and personal attention to every guest have always remained at the core of what we do.

We are Rukako — our faces, our values, and our dedication are reflected in everything we do. We work responsibly, always keeping our customers at the centre of our operations. Our goal is to offer individual service whenever possible and to ensure that our accommodations provide excellent value for money and all essential comforts — without unnecessary extras.

We serve both domestic and international guests, from individual travellers to corporate groups. Our operations are continuously developing, and we are expanding our services into travel organizing — with the aim of offering high-quality Ruka experiences all year round.

Our accommodation portfolio includes over 100 cottages and apartments of various sizes and standards, all located close to Ruka’s services, ski slopes, and activities. There’s something for everyone — whether you’re looking for a cozy cabin surrounded by nature or a convenient apartment near Ruka Village.

Ruka offers unforgettable experiences in every season: downhill and cross-country skiing and the magic of the Northern Lights in winter; white-water rafting, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking in summer. Ruka is a destination for adventurers, families, and those seeking peace and quiet in nature alike.

For us, one thing has always been essential — that every guest can leave everyday worries behind, relax, and simply enjoy. That’s been our guiding principle for over 15 years, captured in our motto: Time for a trip – relax and enjoy!

I’m Juha, entrepreneur and head of Rukako since 2004, when the business was passed on to the next generation. I oversee the overall operations of the company and, alongside accommodation services, also work with construction and renovation projects. 

I’m Katja, and I’ve been part of Rukako since 2003. My responsibilities include accommodation sales and marketing — in other words, making sure every guest finds the perfect place to stay and receives friendly, personalised service.
